About Hathaway & Clark Funeral Home, Inc

Hathaway & Clark, Inc. is Louisville's oldest Black owned and operated funeral service. Established in 1901 by James Hathaway as Hathaway Mortuary in the Fort Hill area. From the 1940's, thru the early 60's, the firm operated in Louisville's Smoketown area on Preston Street. The "Clark" was added to the name after the marriage of Chester D. Clark and Columbia Gray Hathaway. The present facility was built in 1965, and the first African American funeral home to be built in the Louisville area.
