About Unger Funeral Chapels
Our Silverton facility, located on 229 Mill Street, was built and established in 1924 by Ernest Ekman.
Mr. Ekman had previously worked for Jack Funeral Home, which was located on Water Street here in Silverton. Our current home became Ekman Unger Funeral Home in 1957 and later Unger Funeral Chapel in 1960, under the ownership of Tom Unger.
Later, our funeral home came under the ownership of Paul and Laura Lorentzen. Paul was a graduate of the San Francisco School of Mortuary in 1935, and was a pioneer of his time, strongly rooted in operating a family funeral home.
With family values in mind, he kept the Unger family name and operation as it continues today. Our original building remains the same, with slight modifications which have occurred over the years to expand our facility.
Unger Funeral Chapel continues to remain family owned and operated, and is one of 4 family facilities throughout the west coast today.
We are proud to provide personalized and specific assistance to each and every family. We are reasonable and understanding of each person and their individual needs, by having flexibility with payment and options.
We currently have 2 full-time funeral directors and 2 part-time office staff members. We also include a staff of over 10 additional people to assist with duties which may take place during nights, evenings and weekends. We are committed to being available 24 hours a day with the help of our wonderful staff.
