As a son of Irish immigrants, Bernard Bede Devlin was born in Pomroy, OH in 1877. Bede was one of ten children, seven boys and three girls. In 1901, the family moved to Pittsburgh and settled in the Hill District. Bede grew up attending St. Bridget's parish with his family.
