About Griffith Funeral Home, Inc.
The year was 1926. Calvin Coolidge was President. Henry Ford announced the 40 hour workweek and Pontiac cars were starting to be made. U.S. Route 66 was created and ran from Chicago to Los Angeles. In the same year, J.F. Galley opened his funeral home in Broughton, PA in the same location where the business is today. In 1947, Walter E. Griffith, a funeral director from Uniontown, PA, moved to Snowden Township (currently South Park Township) with his family. He purchased the business from J.F. Galley and established the Walter E. Griffith Funeral Home. Walter's son, William E. Griffith, Sr., took over the business in 1962. He was the Funeral Supervisor of the firm until 1987. His son, William E. Griffith, Jr. took over as the supervisor from 1987 until 2002 but Bill Sr. was still involved in the daily operations of the funeral home until 2003. Bill, Sr. was a one-of-a-kind funeral director. He was kind, compassionate, generous, and a wonderful teacher. Many young interns and funeral directors learned a lot from him. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. Bill, Sr. worked together with his son, William E. Griffith, Jr., until 2002 and his daughter, Molly A. Moore, until he passed away in 2008. In May of 2013, Bill's son, William E. Griffith, Jr., began operating Griffith Funeral Home, Inc., a newly established family owned business. Now, over 85 years since that first business began serving the community, the Griffith family is continuing the tradition of caring for families in their time of greatest need.
