Canton Center Historic District is a historic district in Canton, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It represents the original settlement in the town of Canton and is mostly linear running along Route 179. The district includes 84 contributing buildings, and also 44 non-contributing buildings, over an area of approximately 500 acres (200 ha) and is a reduced version of a local historic district of the same name, excluding certain peripheral, non-contributing properties. The district is a well-preserved example of rural agricultural center in Connecticut. The district served as the town's civic center from when Canton was incorporated in 1806 to around 1920 when the village of Collinsville came into prominence. One of the oldest houses in the district is the Caleb Case House built in 1785. The district includes many examples of Late Victorian and Greek Revival architecture. There was very little construction in Canton Center in the 20th century except for the construction of the Cherry Brook Primary School in 1941.

It is bordered by Granby, Connecticut on the north, Simsbury, Connecticut on the east, Avon, Connecticut and Burlington, Connecticut on the south, New Hartford, Connecticut Hartford on the west, and Barkhamsted, Connecticut on the northwest. Running through it is the Farmington River. The town includes the villages of North Canton, Canton Center, Canton, and Collinsville, Connecticut|Collinsville.
At the Collins ax factory in Collinsville, Elisha Root invented the important industrial technique of die casting. Canton is a rural town, incorporated in 1806, in Hartford County, Connecticut County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 8,840 at the 2000 United States Census census.
