Flatwoods is a city in Greenup County, Kentucky, United States. Flatwoods is considered a suburb of nearby Ashland, although Ashland itself is located in neighboring Boyd County. The population was 7,423 at the 2010 census, making Flatwoods the largest city in Greenup County. Flatwoods is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.Flatwoods is a home rule-class city. Locally, Flatwoods is considered to be a bedroom community, as it has no large employer within the city. Many residents work for CSX Transportation, AK Steel, Marathon Oil, King's Daughters Medical Center or Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Flatwoods is a city in Greenup County, Kentucky County, Kentucky, United States. Crager is the city's mayor. Flatwoods is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Flatwoods is named for the areas original topography, a belt of flat wooded land, approximately 650 feet in elevation, running parallel to the Ohio River. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.

Flatwoods was originally named Advance; Advance Methodist Church formed a Sunday school beginning in 1860.
