Washington Grove is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland. The population was 555 at the 2010 United States Census. The Washington Grove Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Because most of the land was owned by the Town of Washington Grove, it had complete control over who purchased and leased the plots. The many walkways and parks are popular not only with residents but also with people from neighboring communities. In 1937 the town was incorporated, and as it grew, the original layout of small houses fronting grassy walkways was preserved in the center of town, with vehicular access via paved streets leading to the backs of the houses. Other town activities include the Summer in the Parks program for children, a book club, a movie club, and the Mousetrap series of concerts. Herein lies the origin of one of the Grove’s most distinctive features, the oddly-shaped, tightly-spaced homes radiating out from the Sacred Circle.
