The Svoboda Funeral Home was started in 1904 by Peter F. Svoboda on his family farm near Linwood. At that time the embalming and other preparation of the body was done at the home of the deceased.. The visitation, and often the funeral, were also held at the family home and therefore there was no need for an actual funeral home building. Caskets were chosen from a book and made by the undertaker on an at need basis.
