History

Transportation services Conneaut via Interstate 90, which bisects the city, along with an international shipping port and three railroads. The current interim city manager is Ed Somppi. Conneaut was originally named "Salem", and the parts surrounding it were named "Lakeville" from 1944-1964. The population was 12,734 at the United States Census 2000 census.

The city of Conneaut is located on an old Native Americans in the United States American trail, also used by early pioneers heading westward. The word 'conneaut' comes from the Seneca tribe language, and has a disputed meaning.
