The population was 5,809 at the United States Census, 2000 census.

The area was first settled in 1850, and for a time was known as Union Bench. It is part of the Provo, Utah Utah Utah Provo-Orem metropolitan area Statistical Area. Mapleton was finally incorporated in 1948. Mapleton is a city in Utah County, Utah County, Utah, United States. It started out as an agricultural extension of a then small-Springville, Utah Legal action between residents of Springville and what became Mapleton, largely over water rights, allowed Mapleton to chart its own course beginning in 1901.
