(The above information was gleaned from: "Writ in Remembrance: 100 Years of LaCrosse Area History" by Don Dorman, Ruth Dorman and Dorothy Smith). & N railroad line between Riparia and LaCrosse, George Dawson and his wife built a shack constructed from railroad ties. The population was 380 at the 2000 United States Census census.

LaCrosse was incorporated on February 19, 1917.
