Facts about the city

Falls Village is a village and census-designated place in the town of Canaan in Litchfield County, Connecticut. It is considered to be the second smallest town in Connecticut. Because Falls Village is the town center and principal constituent village in Canaan, the entire town is often referred to as \"Falls Village.\" That usage also avoids confusion of the town with Canaan Village in the town of North Canaan, Connecticut, not far away. Falls Village is also known for its looks. The small town is surrounded by mountains, which attracts tourists during all seasons. One of the main goals of Falls Village that was to become industrialized. The idea was that it would be fueled by hydropower that would come from canals that the people would build. Over the years, canals were made and running properly but over time developed a leak, ruining the dreams of the location. Before the leak, the town was crawling with people who were interested in industrialization. They used to be part of the iron industry. They used to have furnaces which produced high-quality iron.Falls Village was founded by the Native Americans. Falls Village derives its name from a waterfall, known as Great Falls, which is formed along the Housatonic River within the village. The Falls Village post office is assigned zip code 06031, which encompasses the entire town of Canaan. In 1979 the Falls Village District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an historic district. The district represents about 70 acres (280,000 m2) that were built in the middle of the 19th century as a result of the area being selected as a station stop for the Housatonic Railroad in the early 1830s. Newer buildings around the junction of U.S. Route 7 and Route 126 are excluded. There are many things that this town has to do. One of the most famous hotels is called the Falls Village Inn. It looks like a huge house which means that the town doesn't focus on looks only but also history. This inn has been around for a long time, going all the way back to the 1840's. In the past, people have reported sightings of ghosts because the inn has caught fire twice in the past. This gave the towns people to build a fire station right next to the hotel to help prevent more form arising. A very short distance away from the Falls Village Inn, is is bridge that has an amazing view of the waterfalls that fall on the side of some surrounding mountains. They also have something there names the Music Mountains. This is a very popular spot for musical concerts and contains one of the most famous music halls called Gordon Hall. If you like hiking, they are also known for the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail is a long, challenging but mild hiking trail that is rated one of the best. There are also many other things to do besides that are near Falls Village. One of those things is going to a mall named Branson Craft Mall. This is a place where people who are into doing crafts can walk around and look for cute things someone else made and make purchases if wanted. There are also amazing acrobatics that perform in a theater in Branson. The theater also has many other performances that show there. There is also the Stone Hill Winery. Here, people are able to get tours of the fields and get to try new wines that haven't come out yet. They also have Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf. This is a very exotic golf course along with places to walk and see interesting things. They have very unique decorations and is a great place for kids and adults. There is also a Titanic Museum. This is where people can go into a replica of the titanic and have a tour and have a tour guide who tells them a little bit about the ship. The historic district includes examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne architecture. It includes 71 buildings and the canal built to harness water power from the Great Falls northwest of the village. The district is bounded on the south by the east-west portion of Railroad Street, on the east by the rear property lines of houses fronting Beebe Hill Road, on the north by the rear property lines of houses fronting Brewster Road, and on the west by the Housatonic Railroad tracks (with a bulge in the northwest to include the unused 1851 canal between Water Street and the railroad tracks).Contributing properties in the historic district include the D. M. Hunt Library, built in 1891, and St. Patrick's Church.
