Sheffield is a New England town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts County, Massachusetts, United States. Sheffield is home to the Berkshire School, a private university-preparatory school school. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. But New York State York concurrently claimed west of the Housatonic River under the Westenhook Patent, dated July 11, 1705, and insisted that Province of Massachusetts Bay cease encroachment. The population was 3,335 at the 2000 census.
